A fire at a private hospital in southern India claimed the lives of at least six people, with more than two dozen others injured, police reported on Friday. Fires in buildings are frequent in India, often due to inadequate firefighting resources and a lack of adherence to safety standards.
The fire started late Thursday night in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul city, and its cause is still under investigation. The victims, all found unconscious in a hospital lift, were reported by the Press Trust of India.

According to Police Superintendent A. Pradeep, approximately 30 people were injured, though their conditions were stable.
The blaze originated in the reception area on the ground floor and quickly spread to the upper levels, according to the Times of India. This incident occurred just weeks after a fire in Uttar Pradesh’s hospital tragically killed 10 newborns.
Earlier this year, a similar tragedy occurred in New Delhi, where six infants lost their lives in a hospital fire. Additionally, in May, a fire at an amusement park arcade in Gujarat killed at least 27 people, including several children.
