Strong Earthquake Strikes Near Crete, Felt Across Borders

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck off the island of Crete in Greece on Wednesday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The earthquake occurred at a depth of 83 kilometers (52 miles), sending shockwaves felt not only in Greece but also in neighboring Egypt.

In Egypt, the tremor was also strongly felt, with the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics reporting that the quake measured 6.4 in magnitude and occurred 431 kilometers off Egypt’s northern coasts. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage to property in either country.

The earthquake serves as a reminder of the seismic activity in the Mediterranean region, where fault lines often lead to tremors impacting multiple countries.
