In India, a government employee was demoted after he demanded that a reservoir be drained in order to find his misplaced phone. Rajesh Vishwas dropped his phone into the Kherkatta Dam while taking a photo, which led to the tragedy. Millions of litres of water had to be pumped out of the dam over the course of three days, only to discover that the phone had water damage that could not be repaired.

According to Vishwas, the phone needed to be recovered since it included private information from the government. He has been charged with abusing his power, though. The food inspector in the state of Chhattisgarh in central India dropped the Samsung phone, which is estimated to be worth $1,200 (100,000 Indian rupees).
