Syria’s newly appointed President Ahmed al-Sharaa is set to visit the United Arab Emirates and Turkey next week as part of his first official tour of the region. These visits mark a key step in his government’s efforts to rebuild international relations after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian foreign ministry stated that the visits aim to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with regional powers. Sharaa’s political group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, came to power following a rapid offensive last year that ended over a decade of Assad’s rule.

The UAE trip will be Sharaa’s first since taking office, while his upcoming stop in Turkey follows a February visit. His administration is actively pushing for sanctions relief, calling it essential to restoring Syria’s economy and public services after years of war and isolation.
At the international level, Syria recently received support at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, where a resolution was adopted to investigate past war crimes. Syrian officials have welcomed the move as a step toward accountability and reform.
