MUMBAI โ A tragic incident in Vasai has left parents and authorities shocked after a teenage student, 13-year-old Kajal Gaur, died following a brutal school punishment. The sixth grader was asked to perform 100 sit-ups for arriving late to class, a task that proved fatal.
According to her family, the teenage studentโs health quickly deteriorated after being forced to do the exercises. Some students were also instructed to carry heavy school bags while performing the sit-ups.
Kajal complained of severe pain in her legs after returning home, prompting her parents to rush her to a local hospital. She was later transferred to Mumbaiโs JJ Hospital, where she tragically passed away on 15 November despite intensive medical care.
Police reports revealed that Kajal had alarmingly low hemoglobin levels at just 4, raising concerns about whether the punishment worsened her already fragile health. Authorities confirmed that her parents have filed a formal complaint, and an investigation is underway into the school and the teacher responsible.
The Education Department has also launched a full inquiry into the incident. Officials condemned the punishment, stating that such practices are unacceptable and violate the Right to Education Act. Authorities assured that immediate action will be taken against the school and the teacher involved to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Local residents and parents expressed deep concern over school punishments that endanger childrenโs lives. Experts say this tragedy highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations regarding disciplinary methods in schools.
This heartbreaking case serves as a reminder that educational institutions must prioritize studentsโ safety and well-being. The death of the teenage student has sparked calls for nationwide reforms to ensure that punishments do not put children at risk.
