Telegram CEO Faces Charges, Banned from Leaving France

French authorities have charged Telegram CEO Pavel Durov with crimes including complicity in distributing child pornography, illegal drugs, and hacking software. Durov is also accused of not cooperating with investigations into illegal activities on Telegram.

Released on €5 million bail, Durov is barred from leaving France and must report to a police station twice a week. The investigation, which could take months or years, focuses on Telegram’s alleged involvement in criminal activities.

Durov, detained last Saturday at a Paris airport, is subject to court monitoring. Telegram has defended him, calling the charges “absurd” and stating he shouldn’t be held responsible for user actions.
