At least 30 passengers were injured after a train derails on Friday morning in southern Iran. The accident happened on the Kerman–Zarand railway line. Emergency teams responded quickly, ensuring all passengers were safely evacuated.
The derailment occurred in Kerman province. Babak Mahmoudi, head of the Red Crescent Society’s Relief and Rescue Organization, confirmed the injuries to Mehr news agency. None of the injuries were reported as life-threatening.
According to Iran’s national railway public relations office, technicians and emergency responders arrived swiftly. Their prompt action helped safely remove all passengers from the train.
While fatal train crashes in Iran are uncommon, derailments like this highlight ongoing concerns. In June 2022, a derailment near Tabas killed 21 people after the train hit an excavator. An even worse crash in 2016 caused 44 deaths when two trains collided and caught fire in northern Iran.
This recent train derails incident in Kerman thankfully caused no deaths. However, it underscores challenges with Iran’s aging railway infrastructure.
Officials praised the quick emergency response that helped avoid a more serious disaster. Rescue teams and railway engineers worked fast to stabilize the train and assist those injured.
Investigations into the cause of the train derails accident are ongoing. No official explanation has been provided yet. Iran’s railway authorities are expected to release further updates soon.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining and upgrading railway safety measures across the country.
