Trump Claims Israel Has Agreed to 60-Day Ceasefire in Gaza Amid Escalating Violence

Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Israel has agreed to a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, raising hopes for a temporary halt in a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives. Posting on his social media platform, Trump said his representatives held “extensive and productive meetings” with Israeli officials, who have “accepted the terms of the proposed truce.”

“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise the 60-DAY CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the war,” Trump stated. He credited Qatar and Egypt for their mediation efforts and said they will now deliver the final proposal to the involved parties.

Trump expressed optimism that Hamas would also agree to the deal, calling it a step toward regional peace. “I am optimistic that Hamas will accept this deal for the greater good of the Middle East,” he said.

The announcement comes amid renewed violence in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes have intensified. On Monday, Israeli forces reportedly targeted a cafe, a school, food distribution sites, and a hospital, resulting in the deaths of at least 95 Palestinians. Among them were women, children, and journalist Ismail Abu Hatab, who died in a strike on the Al-Baqa seaside cafe in Gaza City.

At least 62 of the victims were killed in northern Gaza, a region heavily bombarded in recent weeks. Witnesses described seeing Israeli fighter jets carrying out the strikes, further inflaming tensions on the ground as diplomatic efforts seek to break the deadlock.
