Trump Confirms Continued Use of Starlink at White House Despite Rift with Elon Musk

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he will continue using Starlink internet services at the White House, despite a recent public disagreement with tech billionaire Elon Musk, who heads both SpaceX and Tesla.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump remarked, “I might move the Tesla somewhere else, but Starlink’s staying — it’s a solid service,” referring to the satellite internet network operated by SpaceX.

This statement comes shortly after Trump announced a break in his previously close relationship with Musk, triggered by the entrepreneur’s harsh criticism of a key Republican tax-and-spend bill, which Musk called a “disgusting abomination.”

Earlier this year, Trump had purchased a red Tesla Model S, which was spotted parked at the White House as recently as Saturday. This led to speculation that the president might sever ties with Musk’s ventures entirely. An anonymous White House source even suggested last week that removing the Tesla was under consideration due to the growing tensions.

However, Trump appeared to shift to a more diplomatic stance on Monday, saying, “We had a good relationship — I wish him well,” and noted he would be open to hearing from Musk in the future.

In response, Musk posted a subtle gesture of goodwill on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), replying with a heart emoji to a clip of Trump’s comments.

The clash began last Thursday when Musk publicly slammed Trump’s major legislative proposal — nicknamed the “big, beautiful bill” — which is currently facing challenges in Congress due to slim Republican majorities in both chambers. The criticism intensified the political divide, at a time when unity within the party is critical for passing key elements of Trump’s economic agenda.

Following the backlash, Musk deleted several controversial posts, including one that appeared to support Trump’s impeachment. Insiders close to Musk told media outlets that his frustration was diminishing and that a possible reconciliation was not off the table.

Despite personal tensions, Starlink remains a vital internet provider to various U.S. government departments, including the White House, thanks to its secure, high-speed satellite connectivity. For now, it appears functionality and national service needs are taking precedence over political disputes.
