Trump Criticizes UK Over Support Amid Escalating Iran War

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Britain is considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. He added that the U.S. does not need them to win the ongoing Iran war.

Trump has repeatedly criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, claiming that London harmed the historically close U.S.-UK relationship. He pointed out that the UK initially blocked American forces from using British bases to strike Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, โ€œThe United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. Thatโ€™s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we donโ€™t need them any longer โ€” But we will remember.โ€

The remarks come after the British Ministry of Defence said it was preparing the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales for possible deployment. However, officials stressed that no final decision has been made about sending it to the region.

Starmer defended his earlier decision not to allow U.S. forces to use British bases for initial strikes against Iran. He emphasized that any military action must be legal and well-planned. Later, he allowed the U.S. to use British bases for defensive operations targeting Iranian missile depots and launchers.

The ongoing Iran war has put pressure on global alliances, as military and political leaders navigate escalating tensions. Trump highlighted that the U.S. had effectively managed operations without British support during early strikes.

This development also follows past disputes, including Starmerโ€™s criticism of Trumpโ€™s Greenland purchase proposal and comments on European troop involvement in Afghanistan. The situation underscores how the Iran war continues to test international partnerships and strategic coordination.

Observers say the potential deployment of British aircraft carriers would signal closer support, but the timing and scope remain uncertain. Meanwhile, both countries stress their commitment to managing regional security and preventing further escalation.
