US President Donald Trump has said the conflict with Iran could end soon. His remarks come as reports suggest dozens of American troops have been injured in the ongoing fighting.
During a brief phone interview, Donald Trump said there are very few targets left in Iran. He suggested the conflict may end quickly depending on future decisions by the United States.
“Any time I want it to end, it will end,” Donald Trump said while discussing the current situation. His comments were shared during an interview with Axios.
The conflict began nearly two weeks ago after the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran. Officials said the attacks were aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities and nuclear infrastructure.
Since then, Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes against US military bases in the region. Some attacks also targeted diplomatic sites, hotels, and airports in nearby Gulf countries.
According to reports, around 150 US troops may have been wounded since the start of the war. The figure was shared by sources familiar with the situation. Earlier official statements had reported only a small number of serious injuries.
Following these reports, the Pentagon issued a statement about the situation. Officials said approximately 140 US service members have been injured during ten days of sustained attacks.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell explained that most injuries were minor. He added that 108 of the wounded soldiers have already returned to active duty.
However, eight service members suffered serious injuries and are receiving advanced medical treatment. Details about the exact nature of the injuries were not immediately available.
Iran’s missile strikes have mainly targeted US military installations. Some attacks also caused damage to regional infrastructure, including oil facilities and airports.
US military officials say the number of Iranian strikes has decreased recently. They attribute this to ongoing US air operations targeting Iranian weapons stockpiles and missile launch systems.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine said the conflict has not been more difficult than expected. He noted that Iranian forces are fighting but have not exceeded US military expectations.
