Trump Takes U-Turn On US Military Strategy Against Iran

Trump Takes U-Turn On US Military Strategy Against Iran

US President Donald Trump reportedly takes U-Turn on the military campaign against Iran, shifting focus from seizing the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials say Trump told aides he is willing to wind down aggressive operations, even if Iran remains in control of the vital waterway. The move comes after assessments that forcing the strait open could extend the conflict beyond the planned four to six weeks.

Instead of immediate action to reopen the strait, Trump now wants to target Iran’s navy and missile stockpiles while pushing Tehran diplomatically to resume free trade. Analysts view this as a significant strategic U-Turn from earlier, more aggressive plans.

If diplomacy fails, the US may encourage European and Gulf allies to take the lead in reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Military intervention remains an option but is no longer the administration’s immediate priority.

Despite this change in strategy, Trump’s public statements remain strong. On Monday, he warned that Iran could face “complete obliteration” of its power plants, oil facilities, and Kharg Island if negotiations stall.

Over the weekend, the USS Tripoli and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit arrived in the region, with 82nd Airborne Division troops also deploying. Up to 10,000 additional ground forces could be sent if necessary.

Trump is reportedly considering a high-stakes mission to seize Iran’s uranium reserves. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that reopening the strait is not the primary military objective. Current operations remain focused on Iran’s navy, missile programs, defense infrastructure, and nuclear capabilities.

Experts say Trump’s decision to take U-Turn reflects a balance between military pressure and strategic caution. It aims to weaken Iran without overextending US forces.

Observers note that this strategic shift may reduce immediate risks of confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz. It also signals a potential willingness to use diplomacy alongside selective military action.

This development shows that while Trump’s rhetoric remains aggressive, US strategy is evolving. The focus now prioritizes crippling Iran’s military capabilities over direct control of the waterway.

Overall, the president’s decision to take U-Turn marks a recalibration of US objectives in the region, balancing risk with strategic priorities.
