Turkey’s ambitious fifth-generation fighter jet, Turkey KAAN, continues to progress despite ongoing concerns about engine procurement. The program, led by the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and overseen by the Secretariat of Defense Industries (SSB), remains on schedule, according to SSB Chairman Haluk Görgün.
Görgün confirmed that all prototype engines required for the Turkey KAAN have been successfully delivered. He added that production work is advancing “at full speed,” signaling the country’s determination to achieve full operational capability in the coming years. The KAAN project is one of Türkiye’s most significant defense initiatives, aimed at reducing foreign dependence and strengthening national defense capabilities.
The SSB chairman also discussed efforts to secure imported engines for the initial production phase of the aircraft. At the same time, Türkiye is accelerating work on developing its indigenous engine, which will power future versions of the KAAN fighter. This dual-track approach ensures that the program remains uninterrupted while boosting local expertise in advanced aerospace technology.
The Turkey KAAN is designed to replace the Turkish Air Force’s aging F-16 fleet. Featuring stealth technology, advanced radar systems, and superior combat agility, the fighter jet is expected to place Türkiye among the world’s leading nations in next-generation military aviation.
The first prototype of the KAAN completed its maiden flight earlier this year, marking a key milestone in Türkiye’s growing defense industry. Experts say the successful continuation of the program demonstrates Ankara’s commitment to technological independence and its broader goal of becoming a global defense exporter.
As Türkiye pushes ahead, the Turkey KAAN stands as a symbol of the country’s evolving defense capabilities and ambitions in the aerospace sector.
