UAE Schools To Resume In-Person Classes From April 20

UAE Schools To Resume In-Person Classes From April 20

The UAE Ministry of Education has announced that regular in-person classes will resume across the country. The decision covers nurseries, kindergartens, and both public and private schools. Students are expected to return to campuses starting Monday, April 20, 2026. Authorities said the move aims to restore normal academic operations.

The announcement brings an end to recent uncertainty over distance learning. Educational institutions had shifted to online classes due to regional tensions. Officials confirmed that all schools will now resume physical learning under updated safety and administrative guidelines.

In Dubai, private early childhood centres will also resume in-person learning in phases. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority stated that nurseries will begin returning to classrooms from Thursday, April 16. Priority will be given to centres operating in government and commercial buildings.

Some nurseries may continue limited home-based childcare services. These arrangements will follow approved regulations issued by authorities. The KHDA also introduced new flexible learning options for younger children earlier this month.

These services include small group sessions and one-to-one teaching. Nurseries can conduct learning groups of up to eight children in home settings. Teachers are also allowed to support small groups of siblings under strict guidelines.

Higher education institutions are included in the return plan as well. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed that universities will also resume in-person classes on April 20, 2026. This applies to both public and private universities across the UAE.

The education sector has faced disruptions in recent weeks. Some changes were introduced after regional developments affected normal schooling. Despite these challenges, officials have now confirmed a full return to classrooms.

Meanwhile, international examinations in the UAE have been significantly impacted. Several examination boards, including those offering IGCSE and A Level qualifications, have cancelled exams for 2026. Schools are expected to inform students about alternative grading methods.

Overall, the decision to resume face-to-face learning marks a major step toward restoring normal education routines. Authorities have assured parents and students that institutions are prepared for a safe and structured return to classrooms.
