UK Halted Dozens of Arms Sales to Israel

The United Kingdom is suspending several Arms Sales to Israel due to concerns that these weapons might be used in violation of international law, following the recent murder of six Israeli hostages by Hamas.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy informed lawmakers that the suspension affects about 30 out of 350 export licenses for military equipment, including parts for aircraft and drones, as well as ground targeting tools.

Lammy explained that the British government fears this equipment could be used in the ongoing Gaza conflict, posing a risk of serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant expressed disappointment over the British government’s decision to impose “sanctions” on the export licenses.

He noted that this decision comes at a time when Israel is engaged in a multi-front war initiated by a “savage terrorist organization” and is grieving the execution of six hostages by Hamas in Gaza tunnels, while also working to rescue 101 other hostages.

In his statement, Gallant affirmed support for the troops and security agencies, praising their courage, professionalism, and moral integrity. He reiterated Israel’s commitment to defending the state and its people.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz criticized the UK’s decision, stating that it sends a “very problematic message” to Hamas, which is backed by Iran.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz asserted that Israel adheres to international law and has a respected judicial system. He emphasized that friendly nations like the UK should recognize this consistently, particularly following the recent execution of six Israeli hostages by Hamas and during ongoing negotiations for their release. Katz expressed hope that the strong relationship between Israel and the UK will continue.

In other news, President Biden criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not doing enough to secure a hostage deal with Hamas.

Following the murder of Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages by Hamas, Biden and Vice President Harris assembled a negotiating team to address the situation.
