US, China Agree to Restore Military Hotlines After Trump–Xi Summit

The United States and China have agreed to reopen military communication hotlines following a crucial summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping. The move is seen as a major step toward reducing tensions between the two global powers.

During their meeting in South Korea, both leaders discussed a wide range of security issues, including Taiwan, trade disputes, and South China Sea stability. The restoration of direct military channels was highlighted as a key confidence-building measure.

Analysts say the decision reflects both nations’ desire to prevent accidental clashes and miscalculations amid growing regional rivalries. It marks the first major military communication agreement between Washington and Beijing in over two years.

Pentagon officials have confirmed that the hotline system will allow direct communication between senior defense officials on both sides. This mechanism aims to ensure transparency and timely coordination during potential crises.

China’s defense ministry welcomed the development, calling it “a step toward mutual trust and global stability.” The U.S. State Department emphasized that open dialogue remains essential to maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Trump–Xi summit concluded with cautious optimism, with both leaders agreeing to pursue further diplomatic engagements and restore high-level exchanges.
