‘Political Monarchy Is Over,’ Zohran Mamdani Says to Trump Following Election Win

NEW YORK: Newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered a powerful victory speech on Tuesday night, celebrating his historic win as New York City’s first Muslim mayor. The 34-year-old Democratic Socialist called his campaign an end to a “political monarchy” and promised a city for all residents.

Speaking to a cheering crowd, Zohran Mamdani thanked supporters and emphasized that New Yorkers had voted for change. “This is a mandate for politics that works for everyone,” he said, declaring the end of “traditional politics that benefited the few.”

He offered personal thanks to his opponent Andrew Cuomo, saying, “Tonight, I am taking his name for the last time,” while signaling the start of a new era of inclusive governance.

Addressing the city’s one million Muslims, Mamdani said, “There is no room for Islamophobia in New York.” He recited verses from the Holy Quran during the speech, earning applause from a diverse audience.

“The people of New York have proven that power is in their hands,” he added. “We will not allow the people to be divided. This city is yours, democracy is yours.”

In a direct message to former President Donald Trump, Zohran Mamdani said, “Listen, Trump, New York is and will remain a city of the people,” a remark that drew thunderous applause and widespread attention nationwide.

Mamdani also expressed gratitude to more than 1,000 campaign volunteers, taxi drivers, nurses, and working-class citizens who supported him. “My victory is the people’s victory. We will fight for you because we are one of you,” he said.

He reaffirmed his vision to make New York affordable and equitable for all residents. Mamdani pledged to prioritize representation, equality, and support for the working class, ensuring the city remains inclusive.
