Pakistan has made a major advancement in digital connectivity following the completion of repair work on a key submarine cable. The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed that the maintenance work is now finished.
Earlier, PTCL had warned internet users of possible slowdowns or temporary disruptions for up to 18 hours. These interruptions affected the countryโs undersea communication network, which is crucial for international data traffic.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology, the repaired high-capacity fibre network can now handle 100 terabytes per second. It provides one of the lowest-latency routes between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe. This improvement significantly boosts Pakistanโs international bandwidth capacity.
The enhanced network supports cloud services, data centres, fintech, e-commerce, streaming platforms, and the broader digital economy. Officials say this expansion will strengthen the countryโs digital connectivity, enabling faster and more reliable internet access for businesses and consumers alike.
PTCL stated that operations on the affected segment of the cable have been fully restored. Internet speed and connectivity across most regions of Pakistan are now stable.
However, users in Karachi report continued slow internet performance. Uploading and downloading content on social media platforms remains challenging, despite the cable repair. Officials are monitoring the situation and working to ensure full service restoration.
The completed maintenance work and improved network capacity highlight Pakistanโs ongoing efforts to enhance digital connectivity nationwide. The high-capacity submarine cable ensures that the country can better meet the growing demands of internet users, businesses, and the expanding digital economy.
As Pakistan continues to expand its fibre network infrastructure, the reliability and speed of digital services are expected to improve further. Experts say this development marks a critical step toward strengthening the nationโs global digital presence and connectivity.
