YouTube is introducing an experimental feature called Your Custom Feed to help users find videos that match their interests. The feature aims to improve recommendations on the platform.
Many users have expressed frustration with YouTube’s algorithm, which can misinterpret viewing habits. For example, watching a few Disney videos may cause the platform to show excessive similar content. Your Custom Feed seeks to address this problem.
Users participating in the test will see Your Custom Feed next to the standard “Home” button on the homepage. Clicking it allows users to enter prompts that reflect their personal interests.
Instead of passively scrolling through videos, the new feature enables users to actively shape their viewing experience. Typing in specific topics, like cooking or travel, allows YouTube to prioritize relevant content in future recommendations.
This experimental feature could transform the way viewers interact with the platform. Currently, users rely on options like “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend channel” to refine their feed. Your Custom Feed offers a more direct and efficient method of customization.
YouTube is not alone in exploring personalized content feeds. Other social media platforms are developing similar tools. Threads has been testing an algorithm-configuration feature, while X is reportedly working on a tool to let users tag its AI chatbot, Grok, to influence their feed.
If successful, Your Custom Feed could set a new standard for user-driven content curation on YouTube, offering a more tailored and satisfying viewing experience. Users may no longer feel overwhelmed by irrelevant recommendations and can focus on content that genuinely interests them.
YouTube plans to monitor feedback from this experiment before rolling it out more widely. The platform hopes Your Custom Feed will create a more engaging and user-friendly experience for its millions of global viewers.
