EU Announces €3m Aid to Support Pakistan Flood Victims in Punjab

The European Union has announced a fresh aid package of three million euros to support Pakistan flood victims in the worst-affected areas of Punjab. The new funding aims to help families rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods after one of the most destructive monsoon seasons in recent years.

According to the EU, the financial assistance will be provided directly to affected households. The goal is to help Pakistan flood victims recover faster from weeks of heavy rainfall that damaged homes, roads, and key infrastructure across several districts in Punjab. Many communities are still struggling to return to normal life.

The EU confirmed that the aid will also support ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation work. This includes repairing housing, restoring public services, and helping families regain access to essential resources. Officials stressed that rebuilding efforts must continue at a steady pace, as many areas remain in fragile condition.

This latest support is in addition to the €1.5 million provided by the EU in September. That earlier package focused on health, drinking water, and sanitation services for Pakistan flood victims living in temporary shelters. The funding covered emergency care, safe water supply, and disease prevention efforts, especially in overcrowded relief camps.

The European Union noted that nearly seven million people across Pakistan were impacted by this year’s monsoon rains. Around 2.9 million people were displaced, forcing families to relocate to temporary camps or makeshift shelters. The floods also caused severe destruction, with more than 1,000 lives lost and over 200,000 homes completely destroyed.

Agriculture suffered major losses as well. Submerged fields, damaged crops, and interrupted supply chains have worsened food insecurity in several regions. The EU said Pakistan’s agricultural sector, already vulnerable to climate-related disasters, will need continuous support to recover.

Rehabilitation efforts are still ongoing, and officials believe more assistance may be necessary. The EU’s latest announcement highlights its commitment to supporting Pakistan as the country works to rebuild infrastructure, restore services, and help affected families stand on their feet again.
