PTI Chairman Responds to 'Anti-State' Allegations After DG ISPR Press Conference

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali has called on pro-democracy forces to help ease rising political tensions. He expressed disappointment over remarks that targeted his party and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The call comes after a press conference by ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, during which the army spokesperson criticized Khan for allegedly spreading an “anti-army” narrative. The statement warned that this narrative had escalated beyond politics into a “national security threat.” Several PTI leaders reacted on social media following the briefing.

Reacting to the comments, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali emphasized the need for dialogue and mutual respect. He stated, “This is the time to acknowledge one another, create space for discussion, and rebuild trust.” He urged pro-democracy groups to take an active role in reducing tensions and preventing further political instability.

Gohar Ali also expressed regret over the military briefing while reaffirming PTI’s loyalty to the state. He said, “Defending Pakistan is paramount. PTI has never been anti-state, and it is deeply concerning when political leaders or state institutions perceive each other as threats. Pakistan belongs to all of us, including the army, and PTI has always demonstrated this commitment.”

He cautioned that actions by “certain non-stakeholders” should not become a reason for friction between PTI and state institutions. He highlighted that allowing meetings with Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, who remain in detention, could help reduce tensions. “The country cannot afford tension and chaos,” he warned.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja criticized reactionary responses, stating, “A troubled response is not a political strategy.” Additionally, Imran Khan’s nominee for parliamentary leader condemned insulting remarks directed at KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, calling them an insult to the entire Pakhtun nation.
