The PTA has issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), allowing it to move forward with the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan. The approval marks a major step in one of the biggest telecom transitions in recent years.
In its official statement, the PTA said the decision was made after a detailed review under the country’s regulatory rules. The authority confirmed that it examined the proposed deal from several angles, including market competition, consumer rights, and the long-term impact on Pakistan’s telecom industry.
According to the regulator, consultations were also held with other government departments to ensure that every requirement was met before giving the go-ahead. The NOC now enables PTCL to continue with the legal, financial and commercial stages of the acquisition process.
The PTA has also directed both companies to keep their services running smoothly during the transition period. They must maintain quality standards, follow all licence conditions and ensure customers are not affected by the change.
The authority added that it would closely monitor every step of the process. The goal, according to PTA, is to protect consumers, encourage fair competition and support a telecom sector that can grow and adapt to future needs.
The acquisition is expected to reshape the market, as PTCL moves toward expanding its reach and strengthening its position in Pakistan’s mobile and data landscape. Industry experts believe the decision will create new opportunities but also increase the responsibility of operators to deliver better services.
