China Urges Gulf Nations to Finalize Free Trade Agreement Talks

China Urges Gulf Nations to speed up talks on a long-delayed free trade agreement. The call comes amid rising global protectionism. Chinese officials warn that free trade faces growing pressure worldwide.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a meeting in Riyadh. He met Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi on Sunday. The discussion focused on trade and regional cooperation.

According to China’s foreign ministry, Wang said the talks have lasted over 20 years. He noted that conditions are now ready for a final decision. He urged both sides to move forward without further delay.

Wang said a completed agreement would support open markets. He added it would send a strong message in defense of multilateral trade. China Urges Gulf Nations to act together against unilateral economic policies.

The foreign minister said China supports stronger GCC coordination. He also backed the bloc’s goal of strategic independence. Deeper regional integration was also encouraged.

China seeks wider cooperation with the GCC. This includes trade, investment, and economic development. Energy and infrastructure cooperation were also highlighted.

Wang is on a three-country Middle East tour. The trip began in the United Arab Emirates. It is expected to conclude in Jordan.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Wang met senior leaders. He held talks with Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud. Both sides discussed regional and global issues.

China praised Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic role in the Middle East. Beijing recognized Riyadh’s efforts toward regional stability. Security cooperation was also discussed.

A joint statement noted shared views on key regional matters. These included Saudi-Iran relations and the Palestinian issue. Both sides supported a fair and comprehensive solution.

Wang described Saudi Arabia as a key partner. He called it a priority in China’s Middle East diplomacy. He also encouraged cooperation in energy and green development.

In a separate meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Wang expressed strong support. He said China is ready to be a reliable partner. He stressed peace and stability in the region.

China and Saudi Arabia also agreed on visa exemptions. The policy applies to diplomatic and special passport holders.
