ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the long-awaited 5G spectrum auction could take place before Ramazan, marking a major step toward launching 5G services in the country.
The PTA chairman confirmed in an interview with Samaa TV that preparations for the 5G auction have been completed. He said the authority will formally request government approval to hold the auction, expressing optimism that the process will proceed swiftly once approval is granted.
According to the chairman, the Information Memorandum (IM) will be issued within the next 10 to 15 days. The IM will outline the detailed terms and conditions for telecom operators interested in bidding for the 5G spectrum. Following the issuance, operators will have 45 days to prepare and submit their bids.
The PTA chairman also revealed a possible timeline for the auction. If the IM is released by January 1, the 5G spectrum auction could take place on February 15, well ahead of Ramazan. This development is seen as a critical milestone in Pakistanโs efforts to enhance digital connectivity and modernize telecom infrastructure.
The introduction of 5G services in Pakistan is expected to significantly improve data speeds, enable innovative technologies, and support sectors such as IoT, AI, and smart cities. The PTA emphasized that all procedural and regulatory steps are in place to ensure a smooth auction process.
Industry experts say the 5G rollout will provide new opportunities for telecom operators and boost competition in the mobile services market. It is also expected to create jobs and promote digital transformation across the country.
The PTA reiterated that the launch of 5G services is no longer far off, highlighting the authorityโs commitment to advancing Pakistanโs telecom sector. Once the auction is completed and spectrum is allocated, consumers can expect next-generation mobile services with faster connectivity and enhanced coverage.
