KARACHI โ PM Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of declining exports and directed senior officials to engage directly with exporters to resolve trade bottlenecks.
Following the prime ministerโs instructions, Federal Secretary for Commerce Jawad Paul and Federal Secretary for Industries Saif Anjum visited Karachi. They held a detailed meeting with exporters at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) headquarters.
Officials from the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), along with industry and trade representatives, attended both in person and online. Exporters from the textile, fruits and vegetables, tourism, and logistics sectors presented challenges affecting their businesses.
Exporters highlighted rising energy costs, operational hurdles, and increasing business expenses as major factors behind declining exports. FPCCI President noted that high energy prices are severely impacting the competitiveness of Pakistani exporters.
Govt Assures Full Support to Export Sector
Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul said PM Shehbaz has given clear directives to prioritize resolving exportersโ issues. โThe government is fully aware of the challenges, and PM Shehbaz is personally overseeing efforts to revive exports,โ he added.
New Export Processing Zone Planned
Industries Secretary Saif Anjum announced the establishment of a new export processing zone on 6,000 acres of Pakistan Steel Mills land. The project will provide modern infrastructure and incentives to boost export-oriented manufacturing and industrial growth.
During the meeting, FPCCIโs senior vice president raised concerns about the performance of trade and commercial officers abroad, stressing the need for better market access and export promotion. Officials assured that these issues would be reviewed under the broader export revival plan.
