The National Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution urging the government to investigate incidents of passenger off-loading at various airports.
The resolution, moved by Syed Rafiullah, recommended administrative reforms to ensure transparency, accountability, and protection of passenger rights. It also called for proper communication so that all passenger off-loading decisions are lawful and documented.
Officials emphasized that undocumented or arbitrary off-loading of passengers harms travelers and damages public trust in the aviation sector. The resolution seeks to create clear guidelines for airport authorities to follow.
In the session, Minister of State for Planning and Development, Chaudhry Armaghan Subhani, highlighted the government’s focus on the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway project. He said the project, comprising five sections, would be completed on a fast-track basis, noting that building motorways is a hallmark of PML-N.
The National Assembly also laid three bills before the house: the National Database and Registration Authority Amendment Bill 2025, the ICT Batteries (Management and Recycling) Bill 2025, and the Co-operative Societies Amendment Bill 2025.
Responding to another notice, Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhary, reported that the green cover of the Federal Capital has increased over the past year and a half. He said Paper Mulberry trees were removed due to health risks, totaling 29,115 trees.
To replace them, 40,000 trees of eight to ten feet in height have been planted. Additionally, 60,000 more trees are expected to be planted by March 30 in the areas where the Paper Mulberry trees were removed.
Lawmakers stressed that along with environmental improvements, proper regulation of air travel, especially passenger off-loading, is critical to ensure travelers’ rights are protected and airport operations remain efficient.
The resolution now calls on relevant authorities to submit a report on passenger off-loading practices and propose measures for better monitoring and accountability.
