A traffic officer was brutally assaulted by members of the pushcart mafia in Saddar, Karachi, causing public outrage.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Tanga Stand on Mubarak Shaheed Road. Stones had blocked the roadway, resulting in a major traffic jam. Cop attacked while trying to clear the obstruction, according to reports.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Hafeez arrived at the scene to remove the stones when two rickshaw pullers confronted him. One attacker pushed the officer to the ground, while the other managed to escape. The assault happened in front of onlookers, highlighting public safety concerns.
Authorities confirmed that one of the assailants has been arrested. A case has been registered at Saddar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
This is not the first time police officers in Karachi have faced violence. Earlier, a cop was attacked and robbed at gunpoint in Steel Town while returning home from duty. Saeed Ahmed, stationed at Steel Town Police Station, and his cousin were assaulted near Sukhan River by four armed men. The criminals stole their motorcycle and mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
A case has been registered at Shah Latif Town Police Station against the unidentified suspects. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in apprehending the culprits.
Law enforcement officials have condemned these incidents, emphasizing that attacks on officers undermine public safety. Citizens are being urged to cooperate with police and report suspicious activities to prevent further violence.
The recent cop attacked cases in Saddar and Steel Town highlight the growing risk faced by law enforcement personnel in Karachi. Authorities have vowed to increase patrols and ensure the protection of officers performing their duties.
