Residents of Tirah Valley began temporary displacement last Friday ahead of a planned security operation against militants. The situation worsened as heavy snowfall halted traffic across the valley. Hundreds of families and vehicles remain stranded.
Rescue teams, local volunteers, and security forces are working to provide relief. Snow-clearing operations are underway to reopen blocked routes and restore normal movement.
The Pakistan Army is leading large-scale rescue and relief operations in regions affected by heavy snowfall, including Tirah, Mohmand, Kalam, Swat, Murree, Azad Kashmir, Zhob, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Army teams are clearing highways and roads while rescuing stranded elderly people, women, and children.
In addition to rescue work, the Army is providing food, shelter, and warm clothing. Special arrangements have been made for children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities to ensure their safety and comfort.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi praised the Government of Punjab and Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider for sending timely humanitarian assistance. A relief consignment reached Peshawar under the supervision of the Punjab Red Crescent Society (PRCS). The goods were handed over to the Red Crescent Society for Merged Districts, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The relief package includes 500 ration packs weighing 20 kilograms each, containing flour, rice, sugar, ghee, and other essentials. Additionally, 1,900 bottles of clean drinking water and medicines for 3,000 patients were provided. These supplies will be distributed among families temporarily displaced from Tirah Valley.
Governor Kundi thanked the Punjab authorities and the Red Crescent Society for their support, assuring transparent distribution of relief to those in need. Authorities continue to monitor conditions closely as heavy snowfall impacts northern and northwestern regions of Pakistan.
The ongoing efforts highlight the collaboration between provincial governments, the military, and humanitarian agencies in addressing emergencies caused by severe winter weather.
