The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a Rain Alert as a strong Western weather system approaches the country. The system is expected to bring intermittent showers, strong winds, and a fresh cold wave across major cities including Lahore, Islamabad, and Multan. Residents are advised to stay alert and prepare for sudden changes in weather.
The storm is expected to hit southwestern Balochistan tonight and will sweep across western and northern regions by Monday. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Several districts including Layyah, Bhakkar, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Khanpur, Multan, Jhang, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Dera Ghazi Khan may experience isolated rain and thunderstorms.
In the Punjab region, heavy evening and nighttime showers accompanied by strong winds are likely in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Chiniot, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Okara. Residents have been warned to avoid outdoor travel during intense rainfall periods.
Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding hilly areas will see rainfall, gusty winds, and even snowfall in the afternoon. Morning fog may reduce visibility in several districts, increasing the risk of road accidents.
Meteorologists have highlighted that this Western system could bring one of the coldest waves of the season. Mountainous areas like Skardu, Kalam, Astore, Nathia Gali, Parachinar, and Leh are already experiencing temperatures as low as -14°C.
“This Rain Alert is issued to ensure that citizens remain vigilant and take necessary precautions,” said the PMD spokesperson. Authorities have asked people to monitor local weather updates and follow safety guidelines during the period of heavy showers and cold waves.
