Punjab Government Bans Private Ownership of Pet Lions

Punjab government has announced a ban on the private keeping of Pet Lions in residential areas. This decision follows a recent incident in Lahore where a pet lion attacked a young child.

The incident involved an 8-year-old boy named Wajid. The child was mauled by the lion, sustaining serious injuries. Following the attack, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice and directed immediate action.

Wajid was shifted to Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment. The Chief Minister also instructed doctors to provide him with a modern bionic arm to aid recovery. Legal proceedings were initiated against those responsible for covering up the incident and for the initial mishandling at the local hospital.

In response to the incident, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sympathy for Wajid and his family. She directed the health department to provide full medical care and support to the child.

The new ban means that private citizens across Punjab will no longer be legally allowed to keep pet lions in their homes. The government emphasized that the decision aims to ensure public safety and prevent future accidents involving exotic animals.

Officials stated that the ban will be strictly enforced. Authorities will monitor residential areas and take legal action against anyone found violating the order. The government also encouraged residents to report unauthorized possession of pet lions.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread discussion about the risks of keeping wild animals as pets. Experts have long warned that lions, even if tamed, remain dangerous and unsuitable for residential environments. The ban is seen as a necessary step to protect children and the general public.
