Kite flying enthusiasts in Lahore have created a huge market boom, as sales surpass expectations on the festivalโs opening day. Malik Faizan, legal advisor for the Kite Flying Association (KFA), revealed that around 400,000 kites were sold on the very first day.
Alongside kites, string sales also surged. Faizan stated that 15,000 spools of kite thread were sold during the initial festival buildup. High-quality strings are in particularly high demand, with prices ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000 per spool.
Breaking down kite prices, large kites are sold for Rs 500, medium-sized ones for Rs 300, and small kites for Rs 200. Faizan noted that the trade from kites alone has generated around Rs 150 million.
String sales added another Rs 80 million to total festival revenue, meaning overall sales surpass Rs 230 million already. Markets across Mochi Gate, Islampura, Sanda, Samanabad, Ichhra, and other areas are witnessing large crowds and heavy trading activity.
The festivalโs economic impact is visible not only in direct sales but also in supporting vendors and small businesses. Many local shopkeepers reported that they were sold out within hours, showing strong demand across all kite sizes.
Faizan emphasized that this yearโs kite festival is setting new records. He said, โThe market is vibrant, and sales surpass even last yearโs figures. The excitement among kite enthusiasts is incredible.โ
Experts predict that the total revenue from kite and string sales could increase further as the festival continues. The high demand for premium strings and decorative kites shows that kite flying remains a favorite pastime in Lahore.
Authorities and vendors are ensuring smooth trade by organizing stalls and monitoring crowds. The buying and selling of kites and strings continue in full swing, demonstrating that this festival is not only a cultural celebration but also a major economic activity.
With such strong sales from day one, the kite flying festival promises to break records, as sales surpass all prior expectations and enthusiasm for the event remains high.
