The Sindh government has announced plans to upgrade 300 centres under the Rabies Control Program Sindh (RCPS). The move aims to improve Rabies treatment and prevention across the province.
Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, chaired a meeting on the program and said that the Rabies treatment facilities will be available every 10 to 15 kilometers to ensure easy access for patients.
โIn Sindh districts, all 300 rabies centres will be upgraded,โ he said. Medicines and vaccines will be procured to provide timely treatment for those affected by the disease.
The upgraded centres will be enhanced in phases, featuring better facilities, standardized protocols, and improved service delivery. Staff will receive technical training to boost their skills and clinical capacity.
Officials also announced a province-wide awareness campaign to educate people about timely Rabies treatment. The campaign will focus on recognizing symptoms, seeking immediate care, and preventing the spread of the virus.
Rabies is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected animals, mainly dogs. It attacks the central nervous system, causing severe neurological symptoms. Without proper care, rabies is almost always fatal.
The Sindh government emphasized a proactive approach to combat rabies, combining upgraded centres, trained staff, and public awareness. These measures aim to reduce infections and ensure prompt medical care for bite victims.
Authorities stressed that early Rabies treatment is critical to prevent serious complications and save lives. Citizens are urged to visit the nearest upgraded centre immediately after any suspected animal bite.
The programme reflects the provincial governmentโs commitment to public health. With improved access to vaccines and trained staff, the upgraded Rabies treatment centres are expected to strengthen Sindhโs capacity to manage and prevent the disease effectively.
