Sindh Bans Schools from Forcing Students as Private Candidates in Cambridge Curriculum

KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially banned schools following the Cambridge curriculum from forcing students to register as private candidates. The decision comes after complaints about student exploitation in certain private institutions.

The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions, Sindh, issued a circular instructing schools to stop this practice immediately. Authorities warned that any school ignoring the ban will face legal action under relevant laws.

Officials emphasized that students’ academic performance is the responsibility of school management and teachers. Denying students the chance to sit for exams, despite collecting fees, violates both regulations and students’ rights. The ban ensures that all students have equal access to Cambridge examinations without coercion.

The move follows concerns about exam security. Last year, the Cambridge International Examinations Board addressed rumors of question paper leaks in Karachi. While widespread leaks were dismissed, partial leaks of three papers were confirmed. Investigations revealed some individuals circulated fake papers and attempted extortion, deliberately sabotaging the examination process.

The Sindh ban reinforces students’ protection, ensuring schools cannot exploit admission policies for financial gain. Authorities are actively monitoring institutions to enforce the directive and maintain compliance.

This new ban aligns with ongoing efforts to protect student rights and uphold academic integrity in private schools across the province. The Directorate has urged parents and students to report violations immediately.

Education experts have welcomed the ban, stating it will help maintain transparency in examination processes and prevent unfair practices. The government hopes this step will strengthen accountability and safeguard the reputation of Cambridge education in Sindh.
