Kite Flying Banned Again As Lahore Wraps Up Three Days of Basant Celebrations

Kite Flying Banned Again As Lahore Wraps Up Three Days of Basant Celebrations

The vibrant Basant festival came to a spectacular close on Sunday, marking three days of kite flying, music, and celebration. As the official schedule ended, authorities ban enforced again, halting all kite-flying activities across the city.

The festival, initially set for February 6–8, was extended until 5 am Monday due to the public’s disciplined and safe participation. Rooftops gradually emptied, music and lights were turned off, and visitors returned home, signaling the peaceful conclusion of one of Punjab’s most iconic cultural events.

During the grand finale, thousands of people gathered to release peace candles into the sky. The event conveyed messages of love, brotherhood, and hope, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.

Info Minister Azma Bokhari praised Lahoris for following safety protocols throughout the festival. She highlighted the role of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, describing her as a key figure in ensuring a safe and joyful celebration. “It is under her leadership that Basant was celebrated peacefully and successfully this year,” Bokhari stated.

Authorities emphasized that the ban enforced again is part of strict regulations to ensure public safety. Basant had previously been banned in 2007 after accidents involving sharp kite strings and celebratory gunfire caused injuries and deaths. The temporary lifting of the ban last December allowed the festival to return under controlled conditions.

Despite the restrictions, the three-day festival retained its signature energy, with colorful kites filling the skies and rooftops buzzing with excitement. The celebrations ended on a note of peace and hope, leaving residents eagerly anticipating next year’s festivities.

City officials confirmed that the ban enforced again will remain in effect until further notice to prevent accidents and maintain public order. Authorities urged citizens to celebrate safely within the guidelines and respect the ongoing restrictions.
