Parliament Lights Switched Off as Opposition Stages Sit-In for PTI Founder

Opposition lawmakers staged a sit-in at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Friday, raising concerns about the health of former prime minister Imran Khan. The protest was organized by parties under the banner of Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan.

Authorities reportedly turned off the lights inside the Parliament building, and all entrances were closed. The closures blocked several leaders from entering the premises. Protesters gathered inside the darkened Parliament area, while members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf held a demonstration outside.

The sit-in plan was finalized a day earlier during a joint opposition meeting. Lawmakers were asked to assemble outside Parliament on Friday. Opposition leaders said the protest would continue until Imran Khan is shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The demonstration comes amid growing concerns about his health. Barrister Salman Safdar submitted a detailed report to the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding Imran Khan’s condition.

The report recommended an immediate eye examination by senior doctors, including Faisal Sultan and Asim Yousuf. It also suggested a check-up by a specialist ophthalmologist.

According to the report, Imran Khan’s right eye has lost most of its vision. He reportedly sees only 10 to 15 percent from that eye. The lawyer stated that the problem began months ago but was not taken seriously by jail officials.

The report said the former prime minister experienced blurred vision and repeatedly complained to prison authorities. However, no major steps were taken at the time. Later, a doctor from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences examined his eyes and confirmed severe vision loss.

Barrister Salman Safdar also recommended providing books to Imran Khan due to his solitary confinement. He noted the absence of a working television in the cell.

The Supreme Court had earlier allowed the lawyer to meet Imran Khan in jail. He was appointed as a judicial representative and “friend of the court.” The court instructed him to submit a full report on the prisoner’s health and living conditions.

The Chief Justice directed authorities to ensure smooth access for the meeting. Officials were told not to create any hurdles. If any issue arose, Safdar was allowed to contact the Chief Justice’s office directly.

The opposition says the protest at Parliament will continue until clear medical arrangements are made for the former prime minister. The situation remains under close political and public scrutiny.
