Sindh Rangers on Thursday confirmed that a terrorist arrested in Karachi is linked to the banned group Fitna al-Khawarij. The operation took place in the Gulistan-e-Johar area, based on precise intelligence, a Rangers spokesperson said.
The suspect, identified as Dost Muhammad, hails from Bajaur. Authorities allege he was involved in a 2020 attack on the Assistant Commissioner of Nawagai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During that incident, Dost Muhammad and his accomplices reportedly opened fire on the government official.
Officials added that the terrorist arrested had also participated in arson attacks targeting government machinery. A case against him was previously registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Malakand Region police station. He had been in hiding in Karachi while allegedly planning further terrorist acts alongside other group members.
Raids are ongoing to capture his accomplices, and the arrested suspect has been handed over to CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further interrogation. Authorities stressed that this arrest would help prevent future attacks in the region.
Earlier this week, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that 12 militants of Fitna al-Khawarij were killed in an attack on a joint security forces check post in Bajaur district. The assault, which occurred on February 16, involved an explosive-laden vehicle ramming into the perimeter wall, causing major damage. Eleven security personnel were martyred during the attack, while the remaining forces eliminated the 12 militants.
The recent terrorist arrested in Karachi is considered a key figure in the group, responsible for past violent attacks and planning further threats. Security forces said the operation highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks and strengthen urban safety.
Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel. The arrest is expected to yield critical intelligence on Fitna al-Khawarijโs network and prevent similar attacks in both Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
