Punjab Government Announces Rs3,500 Price For 40kg Wheat

Punjab Government Announces Rs3,500 Price For 40kg Wheat

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a new policy to support local farmers by setting a wheat price of Rs 3,500 per 40 kilograms. The initiative aims to strengthen wheat procurement across the province.

Under the policy, the provincial government plans to purchase 30 lakh metric tons of wheat from local farmers. The move is intended to boost Punjabโ€™s strategic reserves and ensure food security. Officials say this initiative will provide farmers with a stable income and protect them from fluctuating market rates.

Maryam Nawaz shared details about the plan on X, highlighting that Punjab is the first province to introduce a public-private partnership model for wheat procurement. She stated that 35 domestic and international companies have pre-qualified to participate in the initiative.

The new policy aims to streamline the wheat purchasing process and provide fair compensation for farmers. Analysts say this approach could positively impact the wheat price in local markets by reducing uncertainty and preventing sudden drops in rates.

By securing bulk purchases, the government hopes to stabilize the market. Farmers will benefit from guaranteed sales at the announced wheat price, while the province will build sufficient reserves for future needs.

Officials noted that the public-private partnership will enhance transparency and efficiency in procurement. The initiative also opens opportunities for private companies to participate in grain storage, logistics, and distribution.

This policy is expected to strengthen the agricultural sector in Punjab. Farmers can plan their crops with confidence, knowing that a fixed wheat price has been set for the season. The move may also encourage other provinces to adopt similar strategies to support farmers and maintain food security.

Overall, Punjabโ€™s new wheat procurement policy aims to balance market stability with farmer welfare, ensuring fair compensation and reliable supply for the province.
