Ramadan 2026: Will It Be 29 Days or 30? Here’s What to Know

Ramadan 2026 Will It Be 29 Days or 30 Here’s What to Know

Ramadan 2026 is continuing with full devotion as Muslims around the world observe the holy month of fasting. Nearly a week of Ramadan has already passed in many countries. As the month progresses, discussions have started about whether Ramadan will last 29 or 30 days this year.

The length of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. Experts say the final decision will be made through the official moon sighting process. In Pakistan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has shared early predictions about the possible date of Eid ul Fitr.

According to the latest forecast, Eid ul Fitr may be celebrated a day later than some earlier expectations. Meteorological experts believe the Shawwal crescent may not be visible on the first evening of moon sighting.

Officials from the Met Office explained that the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born on March 19, 2026, at 06:23 PM. However, the age of the moon at the time of the sighting attempt will be very young.

Astronomers say the moon will only be about 12 to 13 hours old that evening. In most cases, a crescent that young cannot be seen with the naked eye. Because of this, experts believe there is almost no chance of spotting the Shawwal moon on March 19.

If the moon is not visible that evening, Ramadan will complete the full 30 days. In that case, Eid ul Fitr will be observed after the next moon sighting attempt.

Despite these scientific calculations, officials stress that the final announcement will come from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee is responsible for confirming moon sightings and declaring the official end of Ramadan in Pakistan.

Ramadan in Pakistan began after the committee confirmed the crescent sighting on February 18, 2026. Fasting started across the country the following day.

As Ramadan continues, people across Pakistan are now waiting for the official moon sighting session. The decision will determine whether the holy month ends after 29 days or completes the full 30 days before Eid celebrations begin.
