The Lahore Traffic Police will begin issuing permits linked to Driving Licenses for under-18 applicants starting March 1. Officials say the move will allow young drivers to gain supervised driving experience under strict rules.
According to authorities, individuals aged 16 and above can apply for the new driving permit. However, applicants younger than 16 will not qualify under any circumstances.
Traffic officials explained that the initiative is designed to regulate youth driving and improve road safety. The policy will allow teenagers to begin learning basic driving under controlled conditions.
DIG (Traffic) Waqas Nazir confirmed that applicants must provide valid identification documents. These include a NADRA smart card or Form B. Officials will verify all records before issuing permits connected to Driving Licenses.
Parental consent will also be mandatory for under-18 applicants. Parents or guardians must approve the application before authorities process the permit request. Officials say this requirement ensures families remain responsible for young drivers.
Authorities stressed that the permit system will include strict monitoring. Only applicants who meet all legal requirements will receive permission to drive.
Traffic Police also clarified the restrictions related to vehicles. Permit holders will not be allowed to drive motorcycles, cars, or commercial vehicles larger than 125cc.
Officials say these limits are necessary to reduce risks for young drivers. By restricting vehicle types, authorities hope to ensure a safer learning environment.
The policy aims to prepare young motorists before they apply for full Driving Licenses in the future. Traffic officials believe early training will improve road awareness among teenagers.
Parents are encouraged to guide young drivers and ensure they follow traffic rules. Authorities say responsible supervision will be essential for the program’s success.
The new system will officially start on March 1 across Lahore. Traffic authorities have asked eligible applicants to complete their documents in advance.
Officials believe the step will help manage youth driving more effectively. It may also reduce illegal driving by teenagers without permits or Driving Licenses.
