Bail for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Toshakhana Case — What Happens Next

An Islamabad court has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana Case related to an alleged fake receipt.

The decision was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka. The court approved their bail petitions against surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.

The Toshakhana Case involves allegations that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi presented a fake receipt to show the sale of state gifts. According to the FIR, the gifts included watches and cufflinks. The complaint claims the items were obtained from Toshakhana and later shown as sold using forged signatures.

During the hearing, the court observed that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence. Judge Majuka noted that no solid proof was presented against the accused in the Toshakhana Case. As a result, the court allowed their release on bail.

Imran Khan was also granted bail in five additional cases. These include cases related to attempted murder and defamation of the army. Each case required surety bonds of Rs50,000.

In the defamation case, the court stated that no material evidence was placed on record to prove the allegations. The FIR claimed that Imran Khan made remarks against senior army officers during a televised speech. The complainant alleged that the statements created unrest and included inappropriate language.

However, the court ruled that the prosecution did not establish the offence with supporting evidence.

In the attempted murder case linked to protests, the court found gaps in the prosecution’s arguments. It said there was no proof that the demonstrations were organized under Imran Khan’s direction. The court also noted that his presence at protest sites was not established.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023. He faces multiple cases, including charges related to corruption and terrorism. These cases were registered after his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
