The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the HBL PSL 2026 will start on schedule, despite regional tensions affecting travel. Teams have received their training schedules, with players set to assess preparations on March 24 and 25.
The opening match of the HBL PSL is scheduled for March 26 at Lahoreโs Gaddafi Stadium, featuring defending champions Lahore Qalandars against Hyderabad Kings. PCB officials emphasized that no foreign players have reported unavailability so far, including Australians, and all teams are expected to arrive on time.
Travel disruptions due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and flight issues after the T20 World Cup had raised concerns about possible delays. To address this, alternative travel routes have been arranged. Players from Australia, New Zealand, and England will travel via Thailand, Singapore, and Turkish Airlines, while Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi players will use direct flights to Pakistan.
The PCB has confirmed that the March 28 match in Peshawar between Zalmi and Rawalpindi is still on. Security arrangements have been reviewed, and players will receive protection comparable to that of a head of state. While the PCB has previously used the UAE as a backup venue, shifting matches abroad is not currently being considered.
The 39-day HBL PSL 2026 will feature 44 matches across six cities: Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Faisalabad. For the first time, eight teams will participate in the league, culminating in a final scheduled for May 3. Officials are confident that the tournament will proceed safely in Pakistan as planned.
