The Punjab government has announced a major change in the academic schedule, confirming that colleges and universities across the province will now operate four days a week, aligning with the recently introduced school timetable reforms.
According to a notification issued by the Higher Education Department, the new four-day attendance policy will apply to both public and private colleges and universities throughout Punjab. The decision follows earlier measures introduced by the School Education Department to revise institutional schedules.
Under the updated framework, Friday will be observed as a weekly holiday for educational institutions. Authorities say the move is part of broader efforts to improve academic efficiency and create a more focused learning environment for students and teachers.
Earlier, revised timings for schools were also announced. Educational institutions will operate from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM under the new system. In schools running double shifts, the morning session will conclude at 12:30 PM, while the second shift will continue from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
Officials stated that synchronizing schedules across schools, colleges, and universities is intended to streamline academic operations and enhance teaching outcomes. The policy is expected to reduce fatigue among students while allowing institutions to optimize classroom learning time.
The education department emphasized that the revised schedule is designed to strengthen the overall education system by improving productivity, planning, and instructional effectiveness across Punjabโs academic institutions.
