Instant messaging giant WhatsApp has launched a WhatsApp new feature for iOS users in beta. The update allows users to see contact photos even if the contact hasn’t uploaded a profile picture.
This enhancement automatically fills blank profile pictures with images saved in your address book. It builds on a previous beta feature, which allowed users to import profile photos from Facebook or Instagram.
The aim of the WhatsApp new feature is to make chats more personal. Now, users can recognize friends even if they have not set an official profile picture. Group conversations will also appear more engaging as faceless contacts are replaced with saved images.
For your own profile, if no photo is uploaded, WhatsApp will display your saved contact image only for you. Others will still see the default placeholder unless they have your photo in their address book.
The feature respects privacy settings. If someone has restricted their profile photo, WhatsApp will show the address book image instead. This ensures you can identify your friends while keeping their official profile picture hidden.
Whenever a contact later adds a WhatsApp profile photo, it automatically replaces the address book image. This keeps conversations updated and visually consistent.
Currently, the WhatsApp new feature is available to iOS beta testers through TestFlight. Some App Store users may also gain early access as WhatsApp collects feedback before a wider rollout.
Experts say this update improves the personal touch and visual appeal of chats without requiring everyone to upload a profile photo. Users can now enjoy a richer messaging experience while maintaining privacy and familiarity.
