Introduces New ChatGPT File Library Feature for Free Users

OpenAI has introduced a new feature for ChatGPT that is designed to improve file management and make conversations more useful for users over time. The latest update will allow uploaded files to remain saved even after a chat session ends.

According to details, users will now be able to access their uploaded files through a separate file library inside ChatGPT. Previously, uploaded files often disappeared once a conversation was closed. With the new feature, users can keep important documents stored for future use.

The update is also being rolled out to free users, expanding access to a feature that many users had requested. The new system is expected to make it easier for people to continue ongoing projects and revisit old documents without uploading them repeatedly.

The file library will support multiple formats, including spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs, and other common documents. Users will also be able to organize and manage their uploaded content directly from the app.

OpenAI said ChatGPT will remember stored files according to user instructions. This means the AI assistant can reference previously uploaded files in future chats when needed.

Different storage limits have been assigned to users based on their subscription plans. Free users will receive up to 500MB of storage space for uploaded files.

Meanwhile, Go subscribers will get 4GB of storage. Plus and Business users will receive 20GB, while Pro users will have access to up to 100GB of storage capacity.

The new feature will be available on both the mobile app and the web version of the platform. Users will notice a new storage section inside the settings menu. A separate library option for uploaded images and files will also be added to the interface.

The update reflects OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to improve productivity features inside ChatGPT and make the platform more practical for everyday use. Many users rely on the AI assistant for work, study, research, and content creation tasks.

Technology analysts believe the new file library could help users manage long-term workflows more efficiently. It may also improve the overall user experience by reducing the need for repeated uploads.
