JD Vance to Lead US Delegation to Islamabad for Iran Talks, White House Confirms

WASHINGTON โ€“ The White House has announced that the first round of negotiations between the United States and Iran will take place in Islamabad on Saturday. Officials say the talks aim to ease tensions and address security concerns in the region.

Speaking to reporters, Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the White House, confirmed that a high-level American delegation will travel to Pakistan for the discussions. The delegation will be led by JD Vance.

According to the White House, the delegation will also include Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Officials said Vice President Vance has been closely involved in managing the Iran issue and will lead the negotiation team.

During the briefing, the White House spokesperson said Iran has signaled it may be willing to hand over enriched uranium. This step could be part of broader efforts to reduce nuclear tensions. However, she clarified that Lebanon is not included in the current ceasefire arrangement.

The spokesperson said the ceasefire agreement was based on ten proposals presented by Iran. These points helped both sides move toward a temporary halt in hostilities. Officials believe the agreement has created space for diplomatic engagement.

She also spoke about the military operation called Operation Epic Fury. According to her, the operation significantly weakened Iranโ€™s military strength. She said strikes targeted Iranโ€™s air force, navy, and key military facilities.

The White House briefing claimed that Iranโ€™s nuclear and missile programs were also hit during the operation. Officials believe these strikes pushed Iranโ€™s ballistic missile capabilities back by several years.

The spokesperson added that Iran is now facing difficulties supplying weapons to regional proxy groups. She stated that these developments have changed the balance in the region.

During the conflict, 13 American soldiers were killed and hundreds were injured. The White House said the ceasefire agreement represents an important achievement for the United States.

Officials also emphasized that the red lines set by Donald Trump remain unchanged. The administration continues to focus on preventing Iran from expanding its nuclear capabilities.

The White House also confirmed that Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. Officials said more than 13,000 targets were struck during the conflict.
