KARACHI: Police have arrested a bank operations manager over the theft of Rs5.37 million in Karachi.
The Bank manager was arrested along with an alleged accomplice within 24 hours of the incident.
Police identified the manager as Arsalan. His alleged accomplice has been identified as Rehan.
According to police, the suspects tried to hide their identities during the theft. The manager reportedly wore a veil and a mask.
The suspects also attempted to obstruct the bank’s security cameras. They allegedly placed bubble gum over CCTV cameras to prevent recording.
Despite these efforts, investigators managed to trace the suspects. Police used technical analysis and human intelligence during the investigation.
Available CCTV footage also helped investigators identify and track the suspects.
The quick investigation led to the arrests within a day of the reported theft. Both suspects are currently in police custody.
Aram Bagh police have also recovered a significant portion of the stolen money.
Officials said Rs2.97 million has been recovered from the total amount of Rs5.37 million.
The investigation into the remaining stolen money is continuing. Police are also questioning the suspects to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Authorities are expected to investigate how the suspects gained access to the money. They will also examine the security arrangements at the bank.
