Work on the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line has slowed significantly, with several sections showing little to no construction activity. The delay has raised concerns over project monitoring and overall execution.
The project is divided into two major sections, from Airport Signal to Mosamiyat and from Mosamiyat to Numaish in Karachi. The latter section, which is larger in scope, continues to face repeated setbacks.
Earlier, this portion of the project had already been suspended due to payment disputes between contractors and authorities. The matter was later resolved through court intervention, allowing work to resume temporarily.
However, recent on-ground observations suggest that progress has once again slowed. Several stretches show minimal activity, with only a few workers and idle machinery present at sites.
In some areas, including the stretch between Hasan Square and Nipa, construction remains halted due to ongoing installation of the K-IV water pipeline. This has added further delays to the overall timeline.
Even where equipment is available, visible construction work appears to be paused. The lack of consistent activity has raised questions about administrative efficiency and project coordination.
Residents of Karachi continue to face daily traffic congestion and disrupted routes due to incomplete construction zones. The uncertainty over project completion is causing growing frustration among commuters.
The repeated delays have intensified concerns about long-term urban transport planning in the city. Citizens are now awaiting clear updates on when the project will be fully operational.
Authorities have not yet provided a revised completion timeline, leaving the future of the Red Line project uncertain as work continues at a slow pace.
