Punjab launches ‘Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar’ portal to support landless farmers

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced a new agriculture initiative aimed at helping landless families earn a stable income through farming.

Under the new scheme, Punjab launches the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” portal to improve agricultural output and create employment opportunities in rural areas. The project will provide access to farmland worth nearly Rs160 billion for families that do not own land.

According to officials, thousands of families across Punjab will benefit from the program. In several districts, around 13,812 agricultural plots will be distributed among nearly 88,780 families.

In the Cholistan region, another 16,685 plots will be allocated to support nearly 101,111 families. Each selected applicant will receive farmland valued between Rs2.5 million and Rs4 million.

Officials said the land was selected after reviewing water availability and soil quality to ensure it is suitable for farming.

Senior Board of Revenue member Nabeel Javed said beneficiaries will also receive financial support to begin cultivation.

Each plot will include a one-time grant ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs250,000 per acre. This amount will help farmers manage initial farming expenses.

In total, more than 124,000 acres of irrigated land will be distributed under the initiative. The land will be leased for 10 years and can only be used for agricultural purposes.

The application process will begin on May 2 and continue until May 18.

Applicants who face issues during the process can file appeals from June 1 to June 8 at their respective Deputy Commissioner offices.

Authorities will release the final list of selected beneficiaries on June 19. Land distribution is expected to start on June 30.

Officials also confirmed that if multiple applicants qualify for the same land, allocation will be decided through a transparent lottery system.

As Punjab launches this major farming initiative, beneficiaries will be allowed to grow crops of their choice. However, permanent construction on the land will not be allowed.
