Islamabad: Pakistan has approved a major initiative aimed at improving seed quality and supporting every farmer across the country. The National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA) has officially approved PATCO Seeds as a Seed Business Enterprise.
PATCO Seeds is an initiative of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. The approval allows the organization to produce, process, and distribute certified seeds on a commercial scale.
Officials said this decision is an important step for Pakistanโs agriculture sector. It is expected to improve access to better seeds for farmers nationwide.
Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said the move will help modernize agriculture in Pakistan. He described the approval as a major step toward building a stronger and more competitive farming sector.
He said the government wants innovation to directly benefit every farmer in Pakistan. He added that sustainable food security remains a key national priority.
According to officials, PATCO Seeds will help bridge the gap between agricultural research and commercial farming. It will bring scientific developments directly to farms.
The organization has also been working on public-private partnerships. It aims to attract investment in agriculture-related businesses.
Experts believe certified seeds can improve crop production. Better seed quality often helps a farmer increase output and reduce losses caused by poor crops.
Officials said PATCO Seeds will focus on climate-resilient and high-yield seed varieties. These seeds will be designed for Pakistanโs different agricultural regions.
Dr. Syed Murtaza Hassan Andrabi welcomed the approval. He said the initiative would support farmers by improving access to advanced agricultural products.
He added that stronger seed systems can improve rural livelihoods. The plan may also create new employment opportunities in agriculture.
Agriculture remains one of Pakistanโs most important economic sectors. Millions of families depend on farming for income.
Officials believe better seeds can help every farmer deal with climate challenges and rising production costs.
