The Punjab government has officially launched the Rehmat Card program to provide financial support to widows and orphans. The initiative aims to help deserving families meet basic needs with dignity and ease.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the program. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs 100,000 in financial assistance. The government says the goal is to reduce financial pressure on vulnerable families.
A total of Rs 5,000 million has been allocated for the Rehmat Card program. The funds come from provincial Zakat resources. Officials stated that the program will follow strict eligibility rules based on Islamic principles.
The government confirmed that only Zakat-eligible individuals can apply. Widows who are government employees or pensioners will not qualify. Those who already meet the Nisab threshold will also be excluded from the Rehmat Card benefits.
Authorities explained that the selection process will be transparent. Data will be verified through the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry system. If needed, records will also be checked through NADRA to ensure accuracy.
Applicants who qualify can submit their details through a dedicated mobile application. A helpline has also been launched at 1077 for guidance and support. The process has been designed to make registration simple and accessible.
Officials said the Rehmat Card system will distribute financial aid through digital wallets. Payments will be sent directly to JazzCash accounts of approved beneficiaries. This step aims to ensure quick and secure transfers.
The selection of beneficiaries will follow district-based quotas. The Punjab Socio-Economic Registry database will identify deserving candidates. This approach is intended to maintain fairness and equal distribution.
If an applicant’s data is not available in the system, verification will be completed through official channels. Authorities emphasized that no eligible family should be left behind.
